Tents of Hope Project

The Tents of Hope National Project officially concluded on November 9th 2008, after a year-long campaign to raise awareness of the genocide in Darfur.

Defend Darfur Dallas participated in the national project along with the Dallas Holocaust Museum, Art for Darfur, D.A.R.F.U.R., Brenda Taylor Productions, and the Dallas Peace Center.

Our tents were painted by people from all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, from novice painters to professional artists, to help raise awareness of Darfur in the Dallas area.  The tents circulated around Dallas for various events until November, when they traveled to Washington, D.C.  They were set up on the National Mall with other tents from all across the nation to symbolize the refugee camps and raise awareness of the plight of the Darfuri people.

After the Gathering the tents were collected to be shipped to Darfur by Darfur Peace and Development, an organization that provides schooling to Darfuri refugees.  The tents will be used as classrooms.
